GDAPFT has established four online collaborative courses for three degree programs (Physician Asssistant, Nurse Practitioner, and Nurse Midwife) at the four parthernship universities (Oakland University, University of Detroit Mercy, University of Michigan, and Wayne State University) collectively.

Additionally, the partnership has collaborated on collections of modules available for instruction in Leadership and in Advanced Physical Assessment to be used by the Partnership universities. Collaborative Courses:

  • Health Promotion/Risk Reduction (HPRR)
    • Equivalents: HPRR is equivalent to the following courses at three partnership universities:
      • Oakland University does not require this course.

      • University of Michigan, N537, Health Promotion and Risk Reduction Across the Lifespan
      • Wayne State University, N711, Responses and Experiences in Health and Illness
    • Course Description: The purpose of this interdisciplinary course is to examine the theory and research of health promotion and its application to practice. It will prepare the health care professional to provide population centered, interdisciplinary, prevention oriented health care.

      Healthy People 2000/2010 will be used as a framework along with theories, concepts and research from multiple disciplines. Health care models are examined for effectiveness within various social, psychological, cultural, political and economic contexts.

      Students successfully completing this course will be able to synthesize models of health promotion and risk reduction and integrate them in their professional setting with individuals and groups (including families, communities and special populations).

    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Instructor: This course has been taught by University of Michigan Lecturer Darlene Ledwon in the fall, and by University of Detroit Mercy Associate Professor Sue Warnimont-York in the spring.
    • Class size: The limit for this course is 20 with 10 seats slotted for the host university's students and 5 for each of the other two universities.
    • On Campus Meetings: Attendance at one face-to-face class on the UDM Outer Drive Campus has been required.

  • Health Policy
    • Equivalents: Health Policy is equivalent to the following courses at the four partnership universities:
      • Oakland University NUR610, Health Policy and Finance
      • University of Detroit Mercy, HLH570, Health Care Delivery and Policy Issues
      • University of Michigan, N535, Strategy for Nursing and Health Care
      • Wayne State University, N6510, Health and Economic Issues
    • Course Description: This course examines the theoretical and empirical bases for health care delivery and policy issues in the United States. Health policy decisions are examined in relation to cost, quality, access, ethics, and managed care. The course is designed to provide students as present and future leaders with a political, economic, and financial understanding of the health care industry. In addition, fundamentals of strategic planning are introduced to facilitate the merging of the financial side with the clinical dimension. Fundamental changes in industry structure brought about by the growth of alternative health care delivery models and other aspects of health care reform will also be stressed.
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Instructor: This course has been taught by University of Michigan Lecturer Rosemarie Rowney and Contract Lecturer Todd Ray in the Winter semester.
    • Class size: The limit for this course is 20 with 11 seats slotted for the host univerisity's students and 3 for each of the other 3 universities.
    • On Campus Meetings: Attendance at one face-to-face class on the UDM Outer Drive Campus has been required.
  • Nursing Theory
    • Equivalents: Nursing Theory is equivalent to the following courses at the four partnership universities:
      • Oakland University, NRS500, Theoretical Foundations in Nursing
      • University of Detroit Mercy, NUR 502, Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice
      • University of Michigan, N532, The Theoretical Base for Advanced Nursing Practice
      • Wayne State University, N7100, Theoretical Foundations of Nursing Practice
    • Course Description: This course focuses on the critical analyses of selected broad and middle range theories in nursing and their relationship to advanced practice. The course includes examination of issues related to the development of theory in nursing, introduction to the process of theory evaluation, and the relevance of theory to public policy. The inter-relationship among theory, practice, and research is integrated throughout the course.

  • Research for the Health Professions
    • Equivalents: Research is equivalent to the following courses at the four partnership universities:
      • Oakland University, NRS531, Research in Nursing Practice
      • University of Detroit Mercy, HLH 550, Research Methods
      • University of Michigan, N536, Utilization of Nursing Research in Advanced Practice
      • Wayne State University, NUR 7010, Research In Nursing
    • Course Description: In this course students learn about the relevance of evidence-based research findings for practice, retrieve and interpret current research literature, synthesize research findings and determine their relevance for practice, analyze ethical issues in research, critically evaluate the research process, and plan for implementing research-based practice,
      evaluating practice, and/or further developing or utilizing scientific evidence.
    • Credit Hours: 3
    • Instructor: This course has been taught by Oakland University Lecturer Gary Moore in the Winter semester
    • Class size: The limit for this course is 20 with 11 seats slotted for the host univerisity's students and 3 for each of the other 3 universities.
    • On Campus Meetings: There are no required on-site meetings for this course.
